DANCE
The folkloric dance classes provide a multi-disciplinary cultural enrichment program, combining history, geography, native language, traditions, culinary arts, performing arts, all through Mexican Folkloric dance.
The goal of the Dance Team is to share the rich history and cultural heritage of Mexico with the greater Pontiac community through Folkloric dance, music, costume, and language. The objective of the dance program is to teach folkloric dances and Azteca ceremonial "Danzas" to those interested. Dancers will then travel throughout the area to take part in performances.
Our Dance Group is looking for more recruits. If you or someone you know is interested in learning the traditional dances of Mexico, please contact us.
UPCOMING DANCE EVENTS
The dancers have been rehearsing a play in memory of Cesar E. Chavez, the Farmworkers' Union leader. They'll be ready to perform in Flint on March 27th to commemorate his birthday. They've also been practicing new dances in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mexican Independence of 1810, and the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution of 1910. They will be performing at various locations during the Cinco de Mayo and June 24th festivals. Dance instructor Casandra Flores is currently working with 10 girl and 2 boy dancers, and says she can use more students, especially boys. They should be between 6 and 16 years of age. Please call (248) 332-6514 for more information.
The Dance team will become part of the Oakland County 4-I-I Club beginning in March.
We're back to 4-H with a club that is kid-centered, with Pearl Usoro and Casandra Flores as the adult volunteers.
